Default Blown Turbo??

Hey folks picked up my new car yesterday an my94 Classic wrx.
On the way home particularly in 5 with the boost / vacuum gauge in vacum im hearinga whistling noise, now this noise gets higher as you accelerate, but it goes away the second the accelerator is released. Just wondering could this be the turbo on way out, although I do have solid boost at standard levels and no smoke and no performance drop! Or could it be a loose hose?

Any help appreciated

hi mate saw a post like this on here a while ago the advice given then was to check all the vacume hoses for a split check around the boost hoses dump valve and so on im sure you'll find a leak somewhere
good luck thou and if im wrong im sure the tech wizards will be along later
to help out

Right, just an update as I still cant figure out whats up!

No mods whatsoever on the car bar a HKS Dump Valve.

Mainly in 5th gear although sometimes can hear a lesser noise but still same in 4th, a whistle or whine noise coming from what sounds like the engine as opposed the gearbox (as im worried it could be this)

If you accelerate from any speed in 5th you get this noise and it gets higher as you go up the revs. If you release the accelerator at any point the noise goes away. No crunching into gears or anything like that. I would have thought if it was a boost leak it would happen in any gear, and have checked all the hoses and appear to be ok.

If anyone has any ideas please shout as its driving me nuts!!!

Could it not be a slightly leaking dump valve?

You could try fitting a substitute OEM one to troubleshoot it. Cheapest one on eBay at the moment:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/subaru-dump-valve_W0QQitemZ170291901126QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_C arsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item17029190112 6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39 %3A1|240%3A1318

But might get one cheaper from the Classifieds on here...
