Default tapping noise

hi first post and all ready having problems, imported a 97 leggy gtb from japland when it arrived all was sweet. has been sitting around for 6-7months when i started it up earlier in the week there is a tapping/knocking noise sounds a little like big ends, but it's there all the time and does not get louder when u hold the throttle and let off slightly. just tapps faster at higher revs. is this terminal?

hi,
i had this same problem. my 93 wrx spent 2 months on sitting on the boat. when i started it a few days after it landed, it sounded like big end was knocking and it also had a loud tick from a tappet.
i was that convinced engine was knackered that i booked the car in to have the work done and left it in my garage for a few weeks. then when i drove the car down to the garage to have the work done noise slowley disapeared! The car would still tick for a few days but that cleared too!
I just kept it topped up with oil and ran it for a week or so and now the car runs sweet as a nut.
I do still get a pistonslap noise in the morning but it clears when warm.
Try running it for a bit off bost (check oil level) and see if it clears. mine did.
