what does the cat he gave you look like? because there is one in the centre section and one in the down pipe, if the one you have is pretty straight and not an s shape then you have the cat in the down pipe still, pretty straight forward to replace the backbox and centre section, which is probably what its had done

Standard 03 WRX's have a pre-cat in the up-pipe, a cat in the down-pipe and the one pictured above in the centre pipe. PPP removes the centre one.

For the best gains in a single hit, get a de-cat up-pipe (cheap), de-cat (or sports cat (expensive)) down-pipe and get it map'd to suit. The centre and BB are adequate and your next tuning step should be handling before going any further with the power.

A rear ARB and solid drop-links are a minimum. Go cheap with some Eibach springs and a geo set-up, or go the whole hog with some coilovers and throw on a front ARB too.

Once that's sorted you could consider the next steps, but here's where yhe prices jump. You'll need more air, so an upgraded turbo, which may need a better I/C (better TMIC or even FMIC). More air needs more fuel, so a better pump (Walbro) and maybe injectors. And that will all need mapping too.

No, sorry. I think the only difference is the up-pipe though. The STi doesn't have a pre-cat IIRC.
