Question Cleaning panel filters - is it worth bothering?

I have a green panel filter in my standard air box, and it's been in there a few years now and could probably do with a clean; the question is, is it worth buying one of these cleaning kits and oiling it etc, or is it just cheaper to buy a new one and throw the old one out?

What experience have you guys had?

yeah i always clean my filter mate, you can get very reasonable k&N kits on ebay for much cheapness and far cheaper than having to replace the filter. however if u fancy a change to something newer then go for it

What's involved? Just some cleaner, scrubbing and oiling?

just brush the filter clean of crud flys ect, then spray the filter with the cleaning soloution and let it do its business for 5 mins and rinse under a hot tap. leave to dry over night. not to keen on the oiling part though as ive heard it can knacker the maf sensor.
i usualy do it at the end of the day when i know im not gonna be using the car again till the next day
