Default NF Octane Booster - Texaco Fuel & Brands

Is NF Octane booster the best?

Where can i get it from? Had a quick look in my local halfords without luck.

Im off to brands next weekend, and the nearest garage is texaco. I dont know if they do 99 ron.

What RON is an import scoob ran on in japan? Advisable to use 99 ron tesco + NF octane booster for the day?

I hear due to high engine running during track increased possibility of det. Octant booster should help this right?

What is det? Something about the fuel doesnt ignite quick enough and so damages the engine some how?

done

So what octane is jap? I guess ill be ok with this + 99 ron tesco. I would imagine 99 ron is actually slightly less, and i would assume up to 6 ron will also be less so i expect the end results to be about 103/104 hence not too high.

THis is of course totally a rough estimate and probably actually nothing like this at all.

japanese is 100 ron so 60 ml of NFrace will get you there with ease for the road. I double up for track just in case. Shell V power is worth travelling further afield for. Alternatively, get yourself a remap.

There's a shell v power garage within a couple of miles of brands - type in Brands hatch as the address on the attached link - the little house symbol is Brands

You just missed a great group buy on NF, worked out at £11.50 per bottle delivered, now beat that..!

All courtesy of Alyn at AS Performance..

The only other OB I would consider is Millers Octane Plus (~£3.50/bottle, which raises 50ltrs petrol 2 ron) it's more widely available than NF. Anything else is a waste of time and money IMHO..!

damnit!

Ended up paying 17 delivered.

Does everyone prefix with some fuel before putting in tank or just pure straight in.

Thumbs up

I just put it in and then wash it down with the petrol.

Don't bother with any others - evens Millers works out more expensive and isn't quite as good IMHO

Millers more expensive, not at £17 a bottle it isn't..!

I usually use 1/3rd bottle (~95ml) of NF to ~50ltrs or so.

There is no point in adding any more, it's just a waste of NF and money..

Measure out before leaving home is best bet.

This will give you a 2 ron increase on whatever you put in petrol wise and yes, NF first then fuel..

Nonsense

Millers £10 a bottle roughly - whole bottle used each time
NF Race £12- £17(!) a bottle - only need 60 mil per 60 litres/tankful (unless on track where I double up)

so, even at £17 / 5 (x 60 mil doses per 300ml bottle) of NF = £3.40 a dose - even at 120mil = £6.80 = far cheaper than Millers.

Anyway, NF gives far better protection against det as shown by much lower knock activity on my car, although Millers certainly isn't bad and is far better than all the other coloured water/ snake oil out there

Exclamation

Miller Octane plus is NOT £10 per bottle..!

Your on about the CVL Turbo version, which I've never used.

Octane Plus is very good and very easy to use at 1 bottle per 50lt, so no messing about measuring. However, it's 'probably' not quite as good as NF.

Having used both (car was mapped for them) I can tell you from experience..

Most all other products are just hyped up marketing, IMHO of course..

Talking

Car was mapped for both of them? OK, you know best

I've used both as well.

Octane plus raises fuel 2 points versus 6 points for NF.

Even Millers say "if you're decatted you can double up to 2 bottles per 50 litres", so that equals roughly £10 per 50 litres using Millers as opposed to 1/5th of a bottle of NF race, or £4ish for 60 litres of petrol. I'll leave you to work the maths out...

Thumbs down Let me explain.. you might need a calculator..!

If 1/5th of NF costs ~£4 that makes a bottle £20..???

Did you find maths a challenge at school..?

1 bottle of Miller Octane Plus (~£3.50/bottle) claims to raise ron by 2 points per 50 ltrs.

1 bottle of NF (@ £12.50/bottle) claims to raise ron by 6 points per 50 ltrs.

Therefore, to get 6 points from NF you have to use 1 bottle..! Most only using 1/3rd a bottle (~£4.20) of NF (2 points) anymore isn't thought to be of any advantage, mapped or not..

With regards to having the car mapped for both, my initial map was done with straight Optimax (as it was then) then I needed a tweak so decided to have it mapped with 1 bottle of Millers Octane Plus. Around 12mths later the car needed another tweak and by this time I'd gone over to NF.

The difference was negligible and mapper said as much.

I use CVL turbo, also good stuff, Supposedle raises it by 4 point, but it does say on thier website that mixed with optimax it gives between 101 and 102. Only use this because I have a ready supply through where I work, and my car was mapped on it too.

BTW there is a Shell Station near the Texaco at Brands that sell Optimax

IIRC drive from Brands to the Texaco (on the roundabout) turn right at the roundabout and about a mile or so later you'll see it.

I've not noticed any difference between them on the mapping i have done. Mind you I cant say that I have noticed any reduction in det from putting this kind of octane booster in at all tbh. They are all expensive and over-rated.

Best bet is to get your car mapped for UK fuel or better still mapped for UK fuel and use a small amount of Methanol or BioEthanol as an octane booster - these work out at less than free.

I definitely would try E85 if it there was a local Morrisons selling it..

With regards to mapping for booster: if I run my car on straight v-power my KL gets very sparkly. That's for the first tankful, so I can imagine it throwing a fit on subsequent tankfuls, once any residual booster has been used up..

Also, many people who get suspected knock, confirm it by chucking in some booster, which reduces or removes symptoms completely. That wouldn't happen if these boosters weren't providing some sort of det resistance.

Fair enough - I havent really done much with them to be fair on mine due to the cost... a splash of methanol is way cheaper.
