As your car is out of warrenty you could use an aftermarket filter although if you have a dealer close by it's logical to get one there.
What oil do you normally use? A good quality 5/40 synthetic would be perfect such as Millers CFS or Silkolene Pro S If you normally use a semi-synthetic then 10/40 would suit.

Sorry to hijack but have just been on the opie wesite and have a 96 import wrx, the oil service packs they have only state a uk turbo 2000 for this age, was wondering if the oil filter would be the same?
