Oil temp mins and maxes
I'm curious to know if I'm overly paranoid about letting my Impreza warm up.
I don't go over 3000rpm until the oil temperature has reached 70 degrees C, and will only start heading towards the redline once the engine has reached about 80-85 degrees C.
Am I being too cautious? I've noticed how many of my Impreza-owning mates seem to wait for the water temp gauge to move to about halfway before gunning the engine (completely ignoring their oil temp gauges and just treating them as just illuminated internal bling).

Lol, if you or anyone else goes by the water temp gauge then the oil will be nowhere near it's optimal temp 80c. Basically, you shouldn't be using any boost/loading the engine until the oils at least 80c..!
The water temp gauge can get to normal in about 2 mins (even in the current ambient temps) however the oil will still be below 50c..!
My oil temp only starts to come up once the water reaches normal
(impreza's run a modene water to oil warmer/cooler) taking anything between 5 to 10 mins+ depending on conditions, type of driving and oil grade used: I use 10w 40 full synth for quicker warms ups btw..
So in answer to the question min 80c and max ~115c before backing off -some will say higher others lower btw..!
