Default Smoking brake pads from bedding in run!

Hi all

Changed my brake pads last week to Ferodo DS2500 - otherwise it's a standard blob wrx set up (discs, calipers etc). Went out for a bit just to make sure that they were working and all seemed well.

However, today I went out to a little stretch of road I know (3-400m long, straight, empty and stops at the end) to bed them in. As per the instructions in the box I start getting up to speed (about 60) then braking down to 20 quite hard.

Do this 8-10 times (instructions say to do it 20 times) and suddenly a burning smell. I stop and look and both sides of pads are smoking. Cue a slow 10 min drive home through lots of puddles to cool them down. Haven't had a chance to take the wheels off yet (it's pissing down) but the pads look fine through the spokes of the alloys.

What did I do wrong? I thought the idea of bedding in pads was this process and that the Ferodo DS2500 should be able to handle the abuse?

I've experienced this, although I now bed pads in differently - just drive normally for a while.

Changed the pads and discs all round on a civic I had before, then did what you did, and there was smoke coming from all 4 corners.

Wouldn't worry about it.

Avoid the puddles though next time you might crack your disks.
