Default HOW TO CHANGE DIFF OIL

hi there. i've only had my skooby 2 months and i wanted to service it. what sort of oil is used for the diff and how do i change the diff oil. how often should you service a turbo subaru. cheers

hi mate ive got a classic subaru & service mine every 5k, regarding the diff oil use castrol synrtrax, the bottom hole is the drain & the top is the filler just add the oil untill upto the thread or slightly starts dribbling out cheers

make sure you can get the top plug out first before you undo the bottom plug and dump the oil.

am guessing you have to change oils on both front and rear diffs right? or do they have linked oil lines. how could i see the top bolt that you have to undo. cheers

The rear diff and gearbox are seperate units . There are 2 plugs on the rear of the diff you can see as you poke your head under the rear of the car. Take the top one out first (the filler plug) just to make sure it comes out, then undo the lower one to drain. If you don't have an oil drain plug spanner then a 1/2" ratchet will fit.

The drain for the gearbox is under the gearbox. Undo it to drain. To refill get a funnel and a bit of hose to fit in the dipstick hole which is located next to the turbo.
