Servicing my jap 93 WRX!
Hello folks
I am sorry if this has been posted before as I have posted below
Anyway, my WRX is in need of a service and I am buying bits to do it with a friend of mine. I already have an oil filter and a Dayco cam belt, but need the rest.
So what I am asking is:
What else do I need like belt pre-tensioner, oil etc?
What sort of oil? And basically any reccommendations that anyone has or any no no's that people reccommend to stay away from. I am looking at maybe Amsoil as I can get a good discount from them, but as above anything reccommended
All your help and advice will be very much appreciated
Thank you.

Hi, Yeah i would always by the cambelt 'kit' with all the tensioners ect you need.
I goto Opie Oils - Oil Recommendations Specialists | Find the right Engine Oil & Performance Products for my lube.
And as for sparks, with your mods, NGK 7's

Yeh I know about the tensioner kits, but I didn't buy a kit I just got the belt Not too worry, its not the end of the world........................................ Yet
I also put some plugs in it last year, but I do need to replace them too.
Thanks for that though
Anyone else please?

you may not need a tensioner, although access to a vice to recompress the existing one is needed. It may be wise to replace the tensioner though due to the age, you are looking around about £100
Oil, any quality oil that meets the subaru min requirements will be fine. Maybe a new sump plug and washer (think its a crush type cant remember now as I no longer have the scoob). Prefill the new filter.
Spark plugs I always change them at least once a year, scoobs love fresh plugs.
Fuel filter if you are unsure when it was last done.
I would also maybe consider changing the waterpump whilst you are doing the timing belt. If it is on its original then it could be getting tired. I had a 92 wrx and when I did my belt I changed the waterpump and it was a good job as it was failing. It is driven from the timing belt so if it did seize it could theoretically cause the belt to jump. About £30 for a new pump
Next to the list would be coolant (needed if you change the pump anyway), take your time when refilling to prevent any air locks, make sure heater is set to hot etc.
Air filter, if you have standard then replace, if you have an aftermarket kit, then maybe give it a good clean (assuming the kit allows you to)
For the maf I would maybe get some cleaner, and gently clean the element with a cottom bud or similar (gently)
To finish off, I would then reset the ecu and let it relearn and you should have a nice freshly serviced scoob running sweetly

Thank you very much jaytc2003
That was very helpfull. I appreciate that
As for fuel filter and water pump, would a higher spec one of each be more beneficial as i am running a Polar performance chip in the ECU or do you think that standard would be OK? The car maybe running about 280-290bhp depending on what extra bhp the chip has given me.
