Default sudden loss of power and engine cut out today on motorway

can anyone point out the usual possible reasons for this to happen? i was cruising in 4th doing about 60mph, power suddenly went, car slowed up and engine cut out as i began to pull onto the hard shoulder , power steering went, potentially v. dangerous.
it's a UK MY99. the only time this has happened before was about 20k ago when car was under warranty, i think it was the MAF sensor...... .....i think. when this happened the revs wobbled about abit and then went low and engine cut.

this time no warning. the car immediately restarted again, and i got home 10 minutes later. car had big 90k service two months ago.

andrew.

I had that in my old classic (RIP )
Had a major service at a subaru dealer (not naming them) and after £950 you dont expect it to happen?!
The spark plugs where finger tight and the crankshaft sensor was`nt on properly
Just check these things coz it didnt start playing up till a month after!

paid same money as you then for the service, it best not be a slack servicing error, it was a really dangerous moment when the engine cut. are there any other common causes?
