I considered a FMIC a while back but the possible increase in lag put me off, rather.
I've seen a S/H Hyperflow top mount for sale and wondered if there would be any noticable benefit over the standard STi IC? It's of a larger capacity and different construction to the standard, so in theory it has advantages, but will they really be noticable on the road plus it may require a map check/tweek? See VMS for the spec. of my car.

I don't know about the HF I/C but perhaps try something like the Zero/Sports Cool Action Intercooler Splitter ?
Zero/Sports Cool Action Intercooler Splitter (Subaru Impreza STI) [ZS-0306012]
Zero/Sports Cool Action Intercooler Splitter (Subaru Impreza STI) [ZS-0306012]
The Zero/Sports Cool Action Intercooler Splitter is designed to direct all the air that comes thru the hood intake. The flow of air is optimized by the fin on the Cool Action Intercooler Splitter and all air is passed thru the intercooler. The efficiency of the stock intercooler is increased by 100% because the maximum cooling is obtained and hence significantly lowering the temperature of the intake air.

Is anyone using one of these, I wonder.

The STi IC has excellent heat exchange capabilities and can shed heat soak loads far better than aftermarket TMICs.
If you're worried about charge cooling then your money would be better spent on an FMIC kit as they have dropped in price so much in the last few years.
all IMHO
