Default impreza engine swap, witch one

i have a 2000 model uk impreza turbo, its just the base turbo model i think its called the impreza turbo 2000 awd. The engine has done about 170,000 miles and now has a massive oil leak so im thinking of just swapping the engine. My question is will an sti engine fit in with out any modifications? If not whats involved? Also it seems as mine is a 2000 x reg model i will have to go for a post 1998 engine, is that right? Just looking to see what options i have. Will i be able to keep my standard 5 speed gearbox if i can fit an sti engine?

Cheers

options are endless mate, depends how much you have to spend, and what you want to end up with?, if you dont want to spend a lot then get the leak fixed, converting your car to an sti will be expensive, if you want sti performance, it would be cheaper to sort the leak and but an sti i reckon, if you want fun and money is not an issue then convert your car to an sti.

id just forge the one thats already in. atleast you'le no its all new, plus you can go 450bhp if you wanted . the only down side is it will cost you around £2500 unless you do it yourself.

dont really want to spend to much as its only my tow car for my Lotus. Just thought if it wasn't to much id look into fitting the sti lump. Not sure its worth fixing this engine its about at the end of its life. I can get another standard turbo engine for around £300 and an sti engine for around £800 but just needed to know if i need to by lots more than the engine for it to fit? I think my turbo's shot to which is another reason i thought about going for the sti lump as i will need a new turbo anyway.

if its just a tower then just get a replacement uk turbo engine, sticking an sti in could give you a headache mate.
