Default Radiator change

HI,
I have just bought a new radiator for my 99 impreza and was wondering if it was an easy job just to change it myself or if i should let a garage do it. I was ready to do it myself but i realised it wasnt as simple as it seemed and i am not sure how to prevent airlocking the heating pipes. could anyone tell me how to do this or if it isnt worth messing with it myself i will take it to a garage. Thanks for any help

Luke

is it the calssic shape. If so, i did mine and it was straight forward. Simply re-fill through the filler point - no air locks and away you go

AFAIK...

- Disconnect the big top and bottom hoses...
- Disconnect the two small hoses to the header tank (on the inlet manifold)...
- Disconnect the small hose to the expansion bottle (by the battery)...
- Disconnect the fans' housing bolted to the back of the rad and the electrical connector for the fans' thermostatic switch and lift out of engine bay...
- Undo the two bolts/screws securing the rad to the top of the slam panel...
- Pull rad upwards and out of bay to remove.

Refitting is a reversal of removal.

NOTE: Make sure the 2 dowels/pegs at the bottom of the new rad locate in their respective recesses.

...Then see here for how to to purge the new coolant that you'll put in so as to eradicate any potential air/airlocks (halfway down post # 17)...

Use 50% anti-freeze / 50% water (preferably de-ionised water, but not essential)
