Mine was running 340bhp and 320lb/ft with a TD05 16g mate.

I'm not sure how you can say you haven't seen impressive figures from a 20G,i've seen lots running 400bhp and over !

The difference in mine running the 20G compared to the 16G is massive,it was always a quick car but the 20G with the STi engine makes it pull hard all the way to 7k revs

If it was my choice i'd be considering either the 18G or 20G

give me a grand sy and ill consider the 20G , like i said mate i just want the car together if i get a 20G in 6 months time so be it but just for the mean time id like a turbo that i could put on and get good power out of it .What i ment was people with 16g's gettin over 340bhp and 18'gs doin 380ish the extra for the 20g doesnt seem worth it .

Yeh but what I mean is at the moment i've only got 20bhp more with the 20G on paper but on the road it's a totally different car

What about this 18G from Zen then:Mitsubishi TD05 H-18g turbo Subaru Impreza WRX STi TDO5 on eBay, also Engine Tuning Parts, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 23-Nov-08 14:18:25 GMT)

It's used but as it's from Zen you know it'll be fine.

If you want lowish 300s on the cheap get a VF35 or a 16G.

I'd agree with that, depends how much power he'd be happy with. As I said earlier I was running a standard 16G at 1.4 bar and had 340bhp.

I should add that my first 16G running 1.4 bar didn't last very long before it gave up,and the second one I had didn't last very long either before it started getting smokey !

Most people seem to say that 1.5 bar is the max a 16G can handle so running it close to that will seriously limit it's life !

I assume that torque is with a 2.5 bottom end?

Mine is 325bhp/302 lbft @ 1.5 bar peak. Conservative map though, so probably could be 340-350 if I decided to sacrifice the gearbox

When you get a genuine 320+ lbft of torque on most classics, rebuilds of standard gearboxes are pretty much pointless exercises. You need at least STI 5/6 boxes and ideally 6 speeders to guarantee longevity.

I for one dont need to be spending £1k minimum on a replacement box for a few extra lbft

20G on a standard UK turbo classic gearbox. Errrrr, no! You're going to be pushing the internals of the engine when you start exceeding 360bhp ish, never mind the poor gearbox.

With a 20G, you will need a 6 speeder. Last time I checked these were £1500+ used without the fitting.

The key there is 400 MAX. Speak to most respected tuners on here and there are very few that would recommend going to 400 on standard internals and expect it last for any length of time.

Yeah Rossy, but I blew a box up with 330bhp/290lb/ft. Some boxes are better than others.

Engines/Scoobies are all different. By all accounts mine should have let go ages ago.

It's difficult to generalise, for things letting go.
