Default Rumbling Diff?

When on the overrun from above 60mph (off the gas slowing down for a dual carriageway roundabout for e.g.), there is a very noticeable rumbling type noise - which I am guessing is the rear diff?

Also noticeable when cruising at above 65.

Does this mean the diff needs replacing or can something be done to fix it?

If it needs replacing what sort of cost is involved - part cost and labour time?

Thanks.

I've got a UK WRX '01 diff sitting in my garage at the moment (perfect running order, 50k, removed for JDM diff due to box swap) if its any help. Removing is diy job as we did the swap in a hour or so.

Could be rear wheel bearings, I've had both go on my MY00 at around 60K and the result is the same as you describe.

Cheers - I'll check out the wheel bearings first then.

mjt, if I do need a diff how much would you want for it - I take it that even though yours is from a new age it still fits then?
