Default ECU Fault code advice

Hi,

I have an 03WRX PPP which has recently been lighting up the check engine light with a P0301 fault code (Cyl 1 misfire)

My dealer says I need a new neutral position sensor, which I think is odd because the gearbox is nothing to do with Cyl 1.

The CEL comes on after a long motorway journey and then goes off again if I potter around town.

Any opinions before I spend £60+ on a new neutral position sensor?

Cheers
Gary.

There is a known problem with a failing NPS throwing misfire CELS, but to be honest I've only seen this on Bugeyes (MY01/02). Has the dealer been out in the car and datalogged the neutral position switch?

More likely to be plugs or coilpack.

Andrew...
