Engine light reset
Hi All,
I am New to the site and new to scoobys. i have a 51 plate non turbo bugeye. the engine light came on last week and i took it to the garage and payed £40 to have them tell me it was a loose HT lead. they put the lead back on and said they could do with replacing and new plugs. when they put the ht lead back on the engine light reset and all was good.
today the engine light came on again, so i replaced the leads and plugs but the light has not reset, does the garge need to reset the engine light???
also i have seen these code readers on ebay, do they work and will they reset the engine light, it just seems like a lot of money to pay just to check whats wrong. like for a loose HT lead.
any help would be great.
thanks to all in advance for any help you offer.

The CEL will clear itself if the fault is not present for 6 cycles, i.e. 6 ignition on/off sequences. If the fault is present the only way to clear it is with a OBD reader. The reader will tell you what the fault is, most are more complex than loose plug lead. So the reader is pretty useful.
