why did subaru stop makin non-interference engine from 1997 up?

does this mean my99 is an interference engine or not?

 

They are all interference engines but the "Interference" normally starts between the Inlet and Exhaust valves due to the 52 degree angle of the valves in the pentroof design of the combustion chamber - the piston then comes up and ***** the jammed valves
