Default oil leak question from a newbie

hi all, this is my first post as i have recently bought a 97 uk turbo, which i hope to keep for a while.
the only problem is that it has a slight oil leak on the drivers side of the engine, but i cant see where it is coming from
ive spoke to a few people who have scoobs and a couple of them have said it will more than likely be leaking from the rocker gasket as this is a common fault - has anyone else encountered this problem or heard it to be a common fault?
if so is it an easy fix or expensive to have done? i am a mechanic by trade but i work on trucks and vans 95% of the time more than i do on cars so any help will be very much appreciated

Very common mate, most cars have it done every 5-7yrs or so....... new gasket etc required....... ask a reputable dealer, and they'll know what you need......

Watched my mechanic do it a while back. Took him just over 30 minutes to do both, but he works on Subarus regularly. Its a bit of a squeeze in there so be prepared for a fair bit of jigging around till it all goes in place. As above, get the bits you need from your local dealer if you want to give it a go yourself.

Whether its a common fault I cant tell you, but taking in to account the age of your car it may well be the cause of the leak. Just a quick note, if your getting under the car, have a look near the oil pump. Sometimes the oil pump seal can leak slightly as it becomes hard with heat over time.

Good luck.
