Default cambelt change - right side cams spun?

Right, so I'm changing the cam belt on my impreza.

Everything was going hunky doory (engine aligned, new belt on properly on crank and left hand side cams).

Now, unfortunately, the right hand side cams decided to spin (yes, I didn't fasten them), so how do I get them back into place? They seem to only want to spin about 180 degrees each, and they don't get lined up properly because of this.

Any ideas on how to rotate the two cams back into place?

Cant you just use a spanner on the sprocket bolt to turn it back round? Then put the belt on with a friend while you hold them in place?

the only way to safely do this now with damaging you engine is to take the cam cover off the side the cams spun, make sure cylinder 1 is at tdc. make sure the the cam lobes are pointing upwards on cylinder 1 then you should have a line on one cam pulley and two lines on the other pulley aline them up and refit the new belt. before starting turn the engine over manually. hope this solves are problem.

just put the spanner on them and turn them back, the pistons are halfway down the bores you won't damage them. the right hand side when all the marks are lined up are holding valves open this is why they spin sometimes, the cam lobe slips on the oil on top of the tappit.

Just be carefull turning the cams - although they wont touch the pistons, you can get valve to valve contact.
