Default FMIC with standard airbox? is it possible........

i'm thinking of getting a GT FMIC fitted. will i definately need to have an induction kit fitted, or can i still use the standard airbox. hope this is not too much of a dumbo question.
if an induction kit is needed, is this purely due to do with the fitting space needed for i/c pipework, or is there more to it??

Andrew.

I looked at this option a while ago, as I don't like the noise that goes with an induction kit with an open filter.
The general concensus was that you need an induction kit with a FMIC for the reason you stated......the pipe for the IC runs through where the filter box sits.

I considered a K&N Apollo as they use a shrouded filter so in theory should be a bit quieter, but for now I've stuck with my TMIC as my power level doesn't warrant/need a FMIC (yet )

cheers. i really don't want an induction kit myself, and have heard of many stories of them causing problems on classics. but i will be needing an uprated I/C at some point soon. the difference in price these days between a top mount and front mount is minimal, but once you start adding on induction kits the price and fitting starts adding up.

I have an APS induction kit on my MY00 classic with an FMIC and have had no problems with it as it has been mapped properly. It also sounds fantastic

i love the idea in theory. but am now thinking of just bolting on a bigger turbo and getting a map done, and sticking with the OEM I/C. i don't think i'd benefit anymore by having an induction kit and FMIC. the car will be on it's limits anyways with a VF35 turbo put on. so it maybe exessive to add an I/C etc. it's road car so it aint gonna be blasted continuously.
