Head Skimming near Reading?
Hi
I've taken the engine out, and heads off from my 98 classic prodrive. This is the second time I've done this. First time it ran fine for 4000 miles, then the gasket(s) went.
Should I get the heads skimmed , as a precaution ? (My mates say "Your MAD if you dont get them skimmed". Ay thoughts?).
And if so - anyone know who could do this ? and what it will cost? (I'm in Reading Berkshire).
Cheers
Mark

Thanks - so would you recommend I do it as a precaution ?
Thanks
So - is the general opinion that if you take the heads off you SHOULD get this done as a precaution?
Cheers - Mark

As Merlin says really, no need unless it's warped beyond limits.
A steel rule placed diagonally across the face (corner to corner) on a perfectly cleaned cylinder head face and a set of feeler gauges is all you require.
Face distortion should be less than 0.05mm typically.
Don't forget to do the same on the block as well to be sure
