Before I shell out £600 to cure my piston slap - does it actually need doing ?
I intend to keep the car for a couple more years - should I sort it or not.
Car seems fine after initial couple of mins of being tappety on cold start-up.
Am I doing / will I do any long term damage by not getting it sorted ?
Opinions seem varied on this subject.

Ro.

Not sure really. Mine (MY00) started doing it at about 10k miles, which would have been in about mid 2000. I've now got 34k miles on it, and it's no worse and is showing no signs of changing (touch wood ). I'm just very gentle with it until it's warmed through, by which the time it's all gone anyway.

Cheers
Richard

Ro, good luck getting a definative answer on this. Before the search was down I read pages and pages of discussion on it.

Here is what I found:
Some people said that in time the skirt of the piston could fall off if it was left - not good.

You should leave it alone, who wants someone taking apart their engine - wheres the logic in that?!

Another person mentioned that some cars (big american if I remember right) have it intentionally as it means that piston won't stick in bore.

And the one that decided me, it can, if left, ovalise the bore, which means a lot more expense...

I had mine done by Scooby Sport, very happy with the results, it's never run better.

I really would love to know a definative answer though but I suspect there will never be one.
