Cam Pulley Problem
Hey people,
Can anyone tell me how they undo their cam pulley without timing belt on (as service manual suggests). I'm taking the cams off in a problem solving exercise to find out that I need a large 60mm spanner/sprocket to hold the pulley while I undo the nut in the centre of it........don't have anything that big, or if I do it cannot hold it well enough for me to undo the nut.
How do you lot accomplish this tricky situation???
If you were wondering...I think I have a broken valve spring, that is why I am doing this.
Look forward to your helpful replies.

I did mine by getting a pair of grips to hold the cam shafts tightly (at the front of the shafts) with a mate and then shocking the pulleys off one by one. Make sure you got the shaft held tightly though! I tried the cambelt wrapped around and held with a pair of grips and it didn't work. Hope this helps
There is a machined recess in the middle of the cam (24mm IIRC) - you put your spanner on there and hold it with one hand and use a socket and breaker bar on the Cam sprocket.
EASY PEASY! - be aware that they are tight though........... and no using adjustable spanners, etc as that is asking for trouble!

Never seen a broken valve spring on a Impreza - but have seen plenty of heads with the springs on upside down ( paint ID code faces upwards ).
Check the valve clearances before you pull the cams on the non hydraulic versions - might narrow it down a bit.
