Question

I read somewhere that ECU reset could be done by crossing a pair of green and black connectors under the stearing wheel and then driving for 1 minute at 11 mph. Well I'm b*****d if I can find them.
Any idea where these wires are?, it's a MY96 WRX Jap import.

Question

If the connectors havent ever been used, they might still be covered in black insulating tape. I had to dig about in my car for ages before I found them.

Take a look at this article from MRT. It explains all.

This is where I started from!!!!
From their article -

"The exact location of the connectors varies with the different year models, but generally they are located under the steering column on the drivers side."

I'll have another look, but I'm sure they are not under my steering wheel.

Ian G -

I've done this on my MY94 STI - when it says its under the steering wheel, you should read "under the steering column". Follow the steering column to where it disappears under the dash, and about 4 inches above where your legs would go, you'll find all the under-dash wiring.

In amongst this lost you'll find the relevant connectors - I'm a short ****, and I still have to put the seat all the way back before I can even see the connectors, so make sure your looking far enough down.

Hope this help.

Yes, yes - I know it means under the steering column, but I've looked under there and cannot find the black or green connectors. I can only assume that mine are a different colour OR in a different place - as the MRT notes suggest.

Does anyone know (for sure) of an alternate location that I could check?

When it says "under the column", I think it means more "under the dash, near the column".

Not the easiest of places to get to, but you need to stick your head in the footwell and look up. One of my wires (MY93 WRX) was several inches above the steering column, and a real nightmare to get to! The wires will generally be where they were stuffed when the car came off the production line......ie, just about anywhere.

You'll just have to keep on looking I'm afraid!

"under the steering column on the drivers side"? Does anyone else find part of that statement redundant?!!!

Found my green connectors at the bottom of the column, but still not found the black connectors anywhere (apart from the ones that connect to the horn!)
