Default Damn Knocking noise??

Ive got a really loud knocking noise from drivers side front. Sounds like something is loose and banging. Ive been under her a few times and checked gearbox and engine mounts and most bolts but cant find the cause. Sometimes its so fierce that I can feel it through the pedals. Mostly at lower (car park) speeds and on really bumpy roads. Long smooth roads its fine.
Anyone have any ideas as its driving me nuts...

Thanks

Definately not exhaust. I wished it was that easy to find! It feels and sounds like its very near my feet or front driveshaft. Been doing it for weeks and getting worse now. What would be the first thing to replace/re-new? Im instantly thinking shocks/lower ball joints but could be way off...

As Adam6900 said,strut top mount?
I had the same, mostly there at lower speeds,it went when fitting Sti 6 suspension, turned out to be top mount. Not something you can see thats the problem.
