Default Replacement engine question

Quick Q for some kind sole

I am replacing an engine in a Seat Alhambra. I have a replacement from a salvage yard. On checking the replacement engine, the crank will only turn so far round before stopping. I don't want to force it round but is this normal or should i give a bit of a push.

Don't really want to take off the cylinder head or sump - but is this my next course of action?

Also, with the engine out of the car, how do you take off the crank pulley bolt. When in the car, I normally put the car in gear and have someone jump on the brakes and it comes off with a breaker bar.

it will move easy then appear to freeze or get stiffer, this is usually because it is about to come on cam.

Like above, remove plugs will make it easier to turn over

to take of the crank pulley bolt, it usually means jamming the flywheel somehow (usually with something very strong!)

Cheers for the replies, but I've tried removing the plugs. There seems to be a definate stop to the crank motion, as if its hitting something. Not sure if this is normal or whether i should strip it down.....

Did you get any warranty from the breakers? Take it back and ask them to check it over before you invalidate the warranty by taking it apart. Could be an expensive mistake.

It has a 90 day warranty from the breakers - but it was delivered and so i can't simply pop it back. I just wondered if there was something obvious i was missing

Solved it.............. Turned it again slowly and it......... suddenly turned. Now turns fully round with just one slight tight spot. I'll put that down to it being off a scrap car and possibly not moved for a while. I put a bit of oil down the plug holes to help lubrication.

Sorry to post this on here, but the seat forum is useless. Post a question on there and you wait a month for a reply of...'sorry to here that - let us know how you get on'
