Default what turbo as direct bolt on replacement to a TD04 ?

I'm looking in to upgrading from a TD04, but am wondering what available IHI VF turbos can be bolted straight on to a UK MY99(understanding that a tweek of the mapping would be needed). i.e VF28, 34, 35. when originally getting my car mapped i was told that it is possible to still run the original intercooler. I've read that the intercooler is good for up to about 330bhp. would this be chancing things? and what problems could occur.

any experiences or advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.
cheers.

VF35 is easy to get, cheap and works nicely into the lower half of the 300's. Straight bolt on.

mines already running over 290bhp on a TD04 mapped by Bob Rawle on the road in swindon. I'm just looking at going for one final bolt on, being a more effective turbo and then a tweek of the map, and hopefully get about 40 more BHP. I've already got a huge amount of torque for the car type, so bhp more important.

'BadgerFace' - very tempting. you have PM.
