Who Designed These Cars i mean seriously!!!!
I thought i'd attack the fuel regulator fitment today with a pal of mine who isn't mod shy, running a stupid quick evo and having done many of the same mods already.
So to start with the reg is a SARD and all the bits were present and correct, to give better access we took off the strut brace, intercooler, heat-shield, clutch fluid cover and header tank but even still the access was awful.
I could see that the standard reg is attached to the rail with two nuts. Now from reading other posts i understand that earlier models had hex head fitments on the regulators to allow the use of a socket etc.. but on mine no.. Fuc***g softwest metal philips head i've ever seen. The top nut was a bitch to get off because any device i used started to round the nut off, in the end a set of mole grips got this one off... A result i thought, how hard could the one underneath be!!!!! Impossible is the answer to that. I tried everything that i could think of even running a dremmel with metal drill bit thrrough the nut, but i couldn't see where i was drilling and chickened out after a few moments.
Then we thought we'd just remove the fuel rail and work on it outside of the bay, again though, the header tank support bracket stopped access to the rail and so this had to be removed. After undoing the nut nearest the intake it became apparent that there was another one somewhere.......... guess where... under the fuel pressure regulator which i couldn't remove.
Suffice to say eveything went back on after bleeding the clutch. No uprated reg fitted and slightly worse off for knuckle skin.
Has anyone else had to deal with this nonsense before now and how did you get at the screw underneath?
Thanks guys

From what i could see catch 22, the rails screw in between the bends of the manifold so i would probably have to remove them before hand no? What an **** of a job! I imagine the offside is probo the hardest side though didn't even check the other side just injectors i think!

I had a laugh getting to my injectors... on the new-age there are bolts that it aint humanly possible to get to !
Till I removed the inlet manifold, once you do it all looks so much easier...
Took me all Bank Holiday to get it done tho'.
And a 14mm swivel headed rachet spanner... thank god for Halfords on a Sunday !
LOL

Funny thing is i hadn't event got to the stage of running new lines and finding a mounting place for the regulator. I had some braided fuel line which turned up but forgot to buy hose tails for the frayed ends.. we were laughing at one point whether halfords would sell them or plastic ones to make people think you had them.. ha You should have seen some of the edward scissor hands contraptions coming out fo the garage today... lol
