another car running 511bhp/480lb which run a 10.5sec quarter at 134mph today and is perhaps the quickest wagon in the uk, quickest bolt on turbo.
another running 521bhp which ran an 11sec quarter today.
Also works very well as a road going ecu etc..

I don't actually know of anyone with a bad word to say about them..
.....and yes one on my own car.

don't agree.. sell the motec for probably enough to pay for a simtek.. the simtek is far more focused for the subaru and actually lets you know you are detting the hell out of your engine.. the motec in comparison is a pain to map and takers a lot longer to get where you want to be with it.
If the car is running fine and you are happy with power output and with how it drives then it is probably a pointless move.. but otherwise well worth it imho.
there are a number of ecus that sell for lots of money using the motorsport image as a reason to charge lots of money.. when in reality it means most of the users are actually just concerned with the loud pedal fully against the metal.. but you want that but also to be able to drive it around town, to get something resempling a mpg, etc...

Completely agree with Simon ..
We have fitted and mapped 50+ SimTek ecus over the last year or so , they are fantastic...
You can tell very early on when you start mapping them that they were designed by a mapper..
Everything exactly where you would expect to find it..
Their product support is very good , when I wanted to have Nitrous control for one of our project cars it took them 4 days from start to finish to add it to the ecu...
All of our big power Subaru builds currently run SimTek...

The M800 is a better ecu but it ought to be it costs at least twice as much to get to the same functionality but in getting to that you do get a huge amouint more. I ran one in my Sti5 for four years before taking it out to do some R & D when I got involved with the SimTek, the SimTek is still in my car. But to say its better is misleading, certainly better value for money and function for function as good in my view. Motec a pain to map ? Not in my view but it depends. Martyn ... you know what I am not going to say. Steve didn't design it.
Sales pitch aside the Simtek is the ecu I would also recommend, good value and capable of achieving as good drivability as the OEM ecu correctly mapped.
cheers

Simtek, Motec, Link, EcuTek, Bosch, DTA, PowerFC, ESL, Gems, Autronic

looks very good..
All of this really needs more detail on the car in discussion.. what is the spec?
I am in agreement with what Bob says.. but a lot of the features on the M800 are just overkill if the car is 100% road and mildly modded.. if it is running big horse power etc.. then the fact it has an M800 on already seems silly to change it.. if the owner is not happy with it.. then perhaps it might be a map issue.. ?
The M800 imho is very expensive when compared to ecu's as good or better...
Solaris being on that list which is full of features including knock control which is an important consideration.. knock detection at a minimum ideally is needed.
Those marketing ecu's without knock control or detection will argue if it is mapped correct then you don't need it.. well you can never guarrentee the fuel you get from different petrol pumps is the same as it was mapped for and if something alters on the car (sensor fails, wiring to sensor fails / dirty connection etc) then letting the driver know there is a problem or pulling timing to keep it safe is very kind to the wallet.
