Default BOV/Dump Valves

I am new to the whole Subaru Experience. I have just bought a 2002 WRX impreza and im loving it to bits.

I was wondering if there is any benefits to changing the Stock BOV (recirculating) valve for an atmospheric one. Are there any problems with doing so and is it worth changing. I have heard several horror stories about rich running motors due to changing the BOV and other issues such as severe back firing and ECU problems.

I am also looking to fit a Turbo timer to the car so If I drive it hard I dont have to sit there and wait for the engine to cool before switching off.

Im basically looking for some general advice on my scooby - Im into modded cars bit dont believe in modding a car to make it worse!!!

Is there anyone who can help me!!!

Personally I wouldn't bother with either a VTA or a turbo timer.
The recirc DV is perfectly capable, and IMO all a VTA will do is -
Make a silly noise
Maybe cause idle issues
Might cause car to run rich
Could cause bore wash
Increase fuel consumption
Not give any performance gains
Make a really silly noise.
As for turbo timers, just drive off boost for the last few miles home and it's job done!
All IMHO of course, someone will be along shortly to tell you their car runs perfectly with an aftermarket DV..........
