Default Uneven idle, loss of boost

I know its been done to death n here but as my search brought up old posts, i wanted a more up date reply

Picked up my bog standard yr2000 wagon his week and despite a couple of problems am quite pleased with it, seems to have been looked after in a lot of ways, car park dings being the exception.

Now, uneven idle (approx 500-800rpm) boost isnt doing the biz, one night this week I had no problem with it but thats the only time, when boosting its stuttering

I've done about 1300 miles in it before I got a chance of looking on here and having read it can be the MAF i'm a bit worried about going out in it again!!

Any other ideas as to the uneven idle and boost loss?

Cheers

If you've recently bought the car (which is 8 years old now) and the '99-00 are well known for a fragile MAF sensor then as a one-off I'd definitely spend the £80 and replace it as a matter of course. Replace it, do the ECU reset and if it's fixed then great. If not, the peace of mind is worth the £80 anyway.

Lee, i changed the MAF on my '97 wagon due to fast idle, knock CEL and the ECU implementing a retarded, over fuled response to the det. i just whacked in a 2nd hand one (obviouse up and down sides) which cured it, but the CEL came back on reading knock shortly (i.e. minutes) after resetting and while driving carefully to warm her up. No syptoms, just the CEL light on start up untill the car got warmed up properly then it went off and stayed off. this still happens 4months+ later and she's been on the dyno couple times and A:F is fine and zero det. so in other words a CEL can still be thrown up as a relic! Dunno if that helps at all, but might be good to know anyway!

Give your local stealer (dealer!) a ring. You need the right one for your motor, they are the same for the 99/00 model as far as I know. They are £80 but as said a new one will give you peace of mind and could solve the problem.

Ah I see, well if it says 99/00 and its genuine then you could try it. Be careful though as a worn MAF can cause a lot of damage to your engine. If you look at it side by side with the one you have taken out then you should be able to see if they are exactly the same. If you need a new one and can't drive there they could always post it to you for a nominal fee?

if you want me to get you one and post it to one of your houses over there i will do just text me,

and dont just say uneven idle tell them that the engine looks like it rocking side to side as well, (where as mine doesnt but does make funny noises though) lol
