Should I get my heads ported & polished
My head gasket has gone and seen as the heads will be getting skimed is it worth while getting them ported and polished?
The reason one of the head gaskets has gone is because the ****** who built the engine re used them.
Thanks

I've had my heads ported and polished. Was done at the same time as many other mods, so hard to specifically tie any performance gain to it.
However, tuner said it was definitely worthwhile - any increase in gas flow is a good thing ultimately.

The valves are masked by the combustion chamber walls so removing material from the walls should increase gas flow as will smoothing the ports and removing edges. Back in the "old days" we used to polish the ports and combustion chambers in the belief it increased flow and reduced carbon build-up. Carbon's not a problem these days and a microscopic "rough" finish prevents boundary layer at the surface.

Didn't Mr. "Engine-tuner" get about 50 bhp extra with a decent pair of modified heads ? A route that I'd like to take, as Cossy ones are a bit expensive for me !

We certainly did , speak to Ric Wood @ cncheads.co.uk ..
It works out cheaper than the Cosworth option but we have seen some very good results with his heads ...
