Default When to change to 3" exhaust system?

Just wondering, at what power level is it generally advised that you really need a 3" exhaust system rather than the standard 2.5"?

At the moment I run a Graham Goode sports cat which is 3" narrowing to 2.5" at the bottom, then the rest of the system is 2.5" (H&S straight through centre pipe, newage WRSport backbox). I don't want a decat and do not want a noisy system - been there, done that.

My current build is targetting 350bhp on a TD05-16G, but the eventual aim will be to fit a 20G and 550s to aim for high 300's. Will retaining my 2.5" system hold me back?
