when building a engine is it wise to plastigage the mains and big ends even if it has a brand new crank and bearings fitted?

Yes - leave nothing to chance - its not unknown to find a rogue sized new bearing in a set or a con rod slightly off on the I/D.

Plastigage Plastigauge Gap Clearance 0.018mm- 0.045mm on eBay, also, Special Tools Measuring Tool, Garage Equipment Tools, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 06-Aug-08 09:16:36 BST)

Enough there to do about 20 engines
