Default Best turbo for 400bhp on a 2.5

Any ideas for the best Turbo for the road/slight track day use for 400bhp ?? got a TD05 18g at mo and the power really drops off after 5500rpm ish.Does anyone have a 20g on their 2.5? Would this Turbo boost right up to red line at 7k?

Does that unit sit in oe position? Problem being i have the early manifold and a 90 degree hose straight up from turbo inlet. Could i still use this with the
md321T or would i have to twist ?

Totally agree. MD321T. Perfect for the 2.5 with 400+bhp.

Thats what I'm saving for.

FP HTA Green from Area 52 Autosport.

Awesome.

1.7 bar at 3000 and will hold that (and more) to the redline

Great value for money too.

Have you got a std 2.5 bottom end, or have you got different rods and/or pistons in..?

and what heads?

If his goal is 400bhp then he doesn't need a 450+ capable turbo!

Micky,

Neil's car (E M B above) did 365bhp/392lbft at on a 2.5/18G at 1.35bar peak IIRC, my car did around 375/420 (AP22 not RR) on a similar setup at 1.6bar peak.

18G has good power from 2500-5500 rpm but falls off rapidly after that, 20G will make 400/400 on a 2.5 with decent pistons and heads.

Have you gone for the ScoobyTeknix conversion? Quite a few of their conversions using std bottom ends are running around the 340-350bhp and 370-380lbft mark on VF2x/3x at 1.3bar ish, I wouldn't push more that that on std pistons.

no i am getting a 2.5 from lateral, and revolution are doing the swap for me as they are local (and it worked out a bit cheaper all inclusive )

to be honest i was planning on simply running it with the 16g for a low down lag free car, which is what i have always wanted, but i have been getting "greedy thoughts"

350/350 is all i really want, or at least that is what i keep telling myself

Depending on the rest of the setup a 16G should be able to do that.

A 16G will run out of puff at about 5k I would have thought on the 2.5 litre.

You will want more and all the time you know that a turbo change at this point would have been so easy, instead it will double the mapping fees, double the fitting, double the work when a simple change would release the power that you are buying and save you money in the long run.

i can fit the turbos no problem myself, i converted the 16g to front entry while bored at work

to be honest, i have never wanted more then the 300/300 it has at the moment, as its fine for what i want

all i can say is i might end up converting the turbo to a 18/20g at some point, if i get bored

If you are going to do that at some point, you might aswell future proof the block now and get some forged pistons for it
