Default NO BOOST

Newbie in need of help,
I have a uk 97 2000 turbo and it doesnt feel like the turbo is kicking in and im not sure its even spooling although its boosting to 11psi and the dump valve is dumping.
I have noticed an oil leak when looking up under the car towards the turbo area, when looking at the turbo with the intercooler and heat sheild off i cant see any leaks.
Would i have to take the turbo off to see if it is leaking?
If the turbo is leaking oil could this cause a loss of boost?
I hope someone can help

Hi, got another couple of questions hopeing someone can answer
If a boost solenoid clicks when the green connectors (under steering column)
are connected does this mean its working fine, or could it be faulty even though it clicks?
If the waste gate on the turbo was stuck open could this cause the turbo to feel like its not kicking in / spooling properly?
Any advice would be great

The boost solenoid clicking is a good sign. The leak around the turbo area when looking up could be the rocker cover, they normally drip onto the exhaust up-pipe.

Another common problem is the circlip that connects the turbo actuator to the turbo can come off leaving the actuator arm seperated.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info bruce, i think your right about the leak as there is oil over the bottom of the passenger side rocker cover.
I have just checked the actuator which does have a circlip on as rubbish as it looks it seems to be doing its job. I also gave the actuator arm a tug to see if the waste gate was moving freely, which it seems to be.
Im not sure where i go from here
When the intercooler was removed i did find an earth wire, it was connected to a bolt on the chasis just behind intercooler, but it was not connected to anything, i suspect it was connected to what i think is the gearbox.
I suspect this as what i assume is the end of the cable is still stuck behind the nut inthe gearbox (i think its the gearbox)
Sorry im not sure what some parts are, why do they not make a haynes manual for it
Does anybody know if this wire is supposed to be there?
If so what does it do?
Sorry i know the info is abit vague but any ideas would be great
I will continue to try upload a pic as not sure how to do it
As for the boost prolem im not sure where to go next

Cant seem to be able to put a pic up but have attached the wire which as i thought made no difference (not sure if it actually does anything)
I've got a mechanic looking at the car 2mor so hopefully he can pin point the boost problem

Hi, had the car looked at and the problem is the actuator is weak which is why it does'nt kick so will get a new one after i've had my rocker cover gaskets done
