Engine Check light
My engine check light come on the other day while driving up a long hill just within the turbo has it was a steap climb, when I got home I checked to see what the the engine check light code was. When I connected the two black wires i got a seqeunce of three slow blinking lights followed be two fast blinking lights. Would anybody please be able to tell me what the lights mean. I own a 96 WRX JDM if it makes a difference. Many thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

the sensor will either be before the downpipe cat just after the turbo or will be on the header on the drivers side of the car (will need to jack car up to get good access) 22mm ring spanner will remove it.
as for price it depends where you go for one, i just bought one from my work which cost me £35 but that was at cost price so to a member of the public would of been about £60 or summit

Under the dash where your feet go, there is two black conectors and two green connectors. If you connect the two black connectors and turn on the ignition, the engine check light should flash. this will give you your fault code.
The two green connectors im led to believe will reset the engine fault list. to do this i believe you connect the two green connectors have a drive up the road and disconnect again.
Hope this helps

the oxygen sensor is that also known as the airflow sensor or MAF as I went to the garage and told them the fault. They informed me it was the MAF which was £241 for the part alone and is on top right next to the air filter and not where told on one of the previous threads. I just want to clarify if they the oxygen sensor and the MAF are the same thing before spending that sort of money.

The problem is that sometimes one sensor may lead to another sensor coming up as a fault code.
As joey turbo said reset the ecu go for a normal drive to see if the code comes up again if so then change the oxy sensor.
get a subaru specialist to use a Select monitor on the car and this should pick up all fault codes and/or check the voltage output on the MAF

thanks for the advice, would i need to wait for the ECL light to come back on for the fault to register again. as it has not come on since the other day, its very random and only happens once in a blue moon.

sorry for all the questions, but how do you confirm the ECU is reset, as i connected the two green connectos drove up and down the road, then connected the two black connectors and the same fault returned immediately. could i disconnect the battery for a certain amount of time to clear it and be certain?

No just the green connectors were connected. So to clarify I should connect the black and green connectors at the same time and go for a drive? Thanks for your responses.

thanks for that just tried it, connected both went for a drive up the road just as i was parking up the ECL light started flashing again with the same fault code. I had not disconnected any cables at this time so the black and green connectors were still connected when the flashing started, Does that mean the ECU had reset and detected the problem again.
