Default Engine warning light and not starting?!

Went to start my 02 Bugeye STI this morning and wouldnt start.
Earlier on in the wk went to start her and she did start eventually but very slowly.
Today had to jump start her to get her running and now got an orange engine warning light on the dash. She wont start at all now unless jumped!!

Has anyone encountered this before or knows what it might be?

Was going to change the battery but why would i have the warning light on?

Any advice would be apprieciated

Cheers
Ben

Just been on SIDC website and you cant just unplug the battery on a new age car.

Have to plug into the ECU after downloading some software then reset it on the comp!!

Might the Warning light just have come on due to it not starting??

Engine malfunction light can be set by car not starting due to flat battery.
If you stick a new battery in and drive the car through 3 cycles (start, drive , stop , engine off), the light will go out if the original fault has cleared.

If the light remains on after 3 driving cycles then there is another fault which will need investigating.

Hope this helps, Andy

Cheers Andy, I washed her yesterday and she started before and after i'd washed it without having to be jump started.
Also the warning light didnt come on so would make sence what you say about the warning light coming on due to not starting!!

fingers crossed just a new battery then!
