Default boost control pipework

hi

anyone know what diameter hose i need for the boost control plumbing on a classic ('97WRX wagon)? I also need the restrictor pill, is that a dealer only? Hopefully be on full boost soon! Thanks for looking!

5mm mostly and the smallest i used was 3mm. Have a look on egay or breakers for the restrictor.

so you have done this before? Not really had a close look at evrything yet, but am i right in thinking the restrictor pill goes in the section of the boost control pipework between the turbo and T-piece?

Thanks for your help

The standard Subaru piping to/from boost solenoid, to MAP sensor, idle air solenoid etc has an internal diameter of 3.2mm. The short lengths used from turbo to t-piece (with restrictor in) and t-piece to wastegate have a slightly larger internal diameter (somewhere around 3.8mm). You can use 3mm pipe in place of the 3.2mm but you will need bigger (min 3.5mm) to get the restrictor in. Don't buy the silicon stuff because it isn't rigid enough. If you buy from Subaru you have to order each piece specifically, the restrictors are available in 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm and 1.5mm for around £2.50 each or you can drill your own. The spring clips are a bugger to find anywhere and they are less than £1 each from Subaru I think.

Silicone piping used for mine. 3mm & 5mm did the job with tie wraps at the ends. 328bhp and no problems I wanted to tidy the engine bay a little

wow thats great thanks Kevin! Hmm, was just going to get lengths of pipe thats i can cut down to length, a restrictor and T peice and plug them all togeter. Is there much point in getting the whole lot from a breaking car? I assume they will be the same for all classics regardless of STi/WRX, etc?

thanskagain for the help

ps so you did what i was originally thinking daves2rs? sounds like the most hassel free solution in terms of getting the bits nice one!
