Default ECU Change

Hi All,

I have a MY96 WRX that used to be an automatic. I had a manual conversion with a replacement rear diff as well.

The question is that the autos are about 40bhp down on the manual, can i just change the ECU for an equivalent manual car and regain that extra power or is in not as simple as that.

I really want a new ECU with re-map but I cant afford it at the moment and wondered if this would be a good short term solution.

Thanks in advance

Jason

Auto uses a TD04 Turbo same as WRX Wagon, hence why you are down on power.
You can uprate the Auto ECU with a chip to 1bar which should see 260+BHP or fit a TD05 Turbo and an ECU from a Saloon.

thanks for the replay Scott.

is there a particular chip I need to look for or is it just a regular manual ECU from a similar year

Scott.T was pointing out one or the other. Chip your existing board or fit a TD05 with a standard 260ps ecu eg Z4.......
