Default Stalling

hope you guys can help shed some light on this one,

car in question 95 WRX Import

it starts fine, and idles fine, revs fine, drives fine until its warmed up then when you come down from some revs it struggles to sit back at idle, goes to like 100rpm then up and down etc, and offen stalls,

any ideas on what this could be? im imagining it could be one of a tousand things but maybe someone has had similar experience and can help!

Thanks Guys!

Terry

did think that but when the car is idling you unplug the maf and it goes as rough as nails, plug it back in its fine.

so i thought that seemed okay, unless for some reason the maf is sending out wrong signals?

had the very same thing was the maf, weird ?, try checking your dump valve if u have one they wear out and cause air leaks leading to idiling faults.

dont think there is a problem with the D/V, seems to work fine, came with the car so not looked over it as of yet.

air leaks have been a problem, the guy who had it before me started to break it so it was missing a load of vacuum hosing, so got it back to mine, and re done all the vacuum hosing with 3mm 4mm and 5mm vacuum hosing. knew someone with same type scooby so copied the hose routes! lol

out of interest how would you know if there is any boost leaks? it boosts up to 0.7bar which i believe is correct for standard engine,

maf could be the problem, happened on the escort of mine (i know its no scooby but the priciples are the same) but on that car it was more it had no power when putting the foot down and the idle was poor, the scooby just seems to be when coming down from revs it stals?

anyone know where i can get a maf for an import wrx95?

I suspect it could be the dump value. I had exactly the same problems on my WRX. Took the after market DV off and replaced it with the standard re-circ, and the problem was sorted.

i dont really want to replace it with the standard one if i can help it? i like the noise to much! lol

why would the d/v be the problem, what is it doing?

would changing it for a new one cure it if it was the d/v?

I am new to scooby's so please bare with me

but the symptoms described i.e. pulling up at traffic lights - and having to blip the throttle to stop the car from stalling (the needle drops below the correct idle speed -- sometime comes back up but mostly dies)

is very common problem on VAG's and is pretty much always something called the ISV -- Idle Stablisation Valve (its what makes the buzzing sound when you turn a GTI's ignition on) -- if you search VW GTI forums for it, it will come up time and time again, usually cleaning does the job

dont know if the scooby has the same system or if the MAF does the same job (although I think the VW,s have a MAF aswell)

just a thought
