Default phantom coolant!

here we go! problems already!
noticed a little spot of coolant on the drive today...........lifted the bonnet after a quick drive(not thrash!) and there was coolant spray all over the inner wing o/s and underside of bonnet at same point.
had an inspection and the expansion tank is fine, let the car run up to presure but no sign??? there are suspect marks down the radiator from the top hose but no signs of leakage................must only leak when driving??
i know this prob could be anything but im new to scoobs and thought someone might have had the same prob???
ps car is not overheating.
manythanks

Could well be a hair line crack in the radiator, possibly in the end cap. This can cause a leak under pressure. As you say there are signs of coolant this may well be the problem. Its not an uncommon problem, if the spray is a fine mist then chances are a new radiator is in order.

Make sure your hoses are tight. I had the same fault on mine, turned out to be the small hose that runs from the expansion tank to the top of the radiator. The standard spring clip was no good,so replaced with a normal jubalie clip. Also, check the seal on your expansion filler cap.

Jaye, should be OK to run steady if your daily drive is not too far. Carry some water in the boot just in case and obviously keep an eye on the temp gauge. As above regarding the hoses, maybe take the car out for a little spirited drive park up and pop the bonnet asap and maybe you will catch a glimpse. As mentioned you could try a jubilee clip on any connection near the area in question, after all they are only a few pennies.

Mine has been running like this for years! LOL.
Again, it's the radiator with a hairline crack in it somewhere along the welded seam. Mine has gone near the offside part of it and blows out when i have given it welly or it is hot out. (not very often then! lol)
I top up an 'inch' or two over a month if its that soon so it does not bother me. What annoys me is, if i had found it earlier, my car was still under warranty at the time.

i suppose it can be easy to miss............if you dont open the bonnet right after, it drys really quick with the heat of the engine.
