Default Hawkeye STI Tuning Potential

I know this has "semi" been done to death over recent months but after hours using the search function I'm no nearer satisfying myself with answers. Hopefully the tuners can put some valued input in here

Remit is simple. I need a car on par with my old 380bhp 53 plate sti with AndyF 18G turbo (car was recently sold). It will be used mainly at weekends (no trackdays) but has to be comfortable for the mrs to use and the occasional suit and tie commute to work.

My two choices at present................

1. 2006 Spec C Type RA - probably similar to what I'm used to power wise but the comprimise in road manners may be a little too much (ie too raw) I dont want anything where I'm counting down the miles to reaching my destination thankful that I've finished my journey.

2. Standard UK 2006 Sti (non ppp) aside from exhaust mod (centre and backbox). I accept this is going to initially disappoint me power wise but I'm happy to spend some money to get it to where I want it.

What do I have to do to get the UK car on par with the RA/ my old blob engine wise. Suspension mods would be AST's. Can I reach 380bhp with similar/ higher torque on the 2.5 engine with a new turbo and supporting mods and remap or is it true the pistons really are not up to the job? I dont want to do any internal work.

Any help appreciated

Option 3. A standard JDM car with quick rack steering, rear wiper and a few other goodies (and still a 2ltr) twin scroll car some tuning will push it beyond that of your last sti and its a nicer car than the 2.5ltr and you get all the comforts

UK will reach those figures quie easily on the 2.5 engine.

The std VF43 turbo will struggle to supply enough air for it to do more than 380 but torque will comfortably be over 400 lb/ft.

Mine did it on the std engine, clutch, gearbox...

Mods needed:
- exhaust system (i chose a Miltek 3 inch system)
- walbro fuel pump
- good mapping
- air filter (i chose Green)

Depending on who maps it you may need either larger injectors or FPR to give some IDC but if run only on the road, they would map slightly leaner than a track day car.

If you feel the need for more power (ie 400+) you start to enter the realms of needing to change internals on the engine. This is a diminishing return so bang for buck not worth it IMO unless you go way over 400

Thats because its a crap engine

The JDM's are much nicer to drive, even if they are .5 of a ltr down

Tony

PS, engine size means nothing if it compromises reliability

RLE I have to agree with rickya mines a daily driver has more creature comforts than the uk and .5 ltr less

May be a trip to Litchfields then at the weekend

Thanks for the input gents. Got insurance quotes on the two cars and there was barely any difference. Looks like it will be the RA route. Hopefully it will meet expectations.

Gussy - do you have the silver RA? Noise wise how do you find it (in the cabin, road noise etc)

I'd say drive both.

For me the 2.0 is a laggy and makes for a poor road going car. The 2.5 suits my needs a lot more and tbh is the best looking of the bunch.
