Does anyone know if its safe to use brake cleaner on the MAF!? If not..whats the best way to clean it?

I used carb cleaner on the one on my dads old Leggy GT. Not sure if it made any difference but didnt do it any harm anyway... I just took the MAF off and gave it a light spray through from a distance, let it dry and then did it again, let it dry out and refit it.
