Induction Hose Fitting : MY99 Phase 2
Does the inlet manifold need to come off to fit a Airbox'to'Turbo induction hose on a MY99 Phase 2 Inlet.
My stock one is a bit knackered turbo end and I recently read the inlet has to come off (was referring to a 97/98 Phase 1 inlet). SO have deferred this upgrade for the time being
However, a friend has recently fitted a Lateral Induction hose to a 2001 WRX and he didn't have to remove the inlet, just cut the old one out and pushed the new one through ???

I've just changed my inlet pipe on my 1999 STi. After weighing up the professional approach (removng the inlet) and the animal approach (leaving it in position) I did the swap with the inlet manifold still in situ!
Undo and move the power steering pump out of the way and after releasing the branch pipes and the turbo jubilee clip I literally pulled and twisted the old pipe out.
The biggest problem is passing the new silicone pipe bewteen the manifold and the fuel pipes which are bolted to the underside of the manifold. There is no space in this area for the two branch pipes so they have to be manipulated when pushing the new pipe into place.
I covered all the openings that were going under the inlet manifold with tape to avoid any foreign matter getting into the pipe when re fitting - then its a case of pushing twisting and forcing the new pipe into position. Remove the tape before final fitting to the turbo and reconnection of the branch pipes.
Be prepared for lots of swearing, cuts and removal of skin.......
Took about 3hours in the end from start to finish assembled - but had to be done as the old pipe was split
Good Luck
Rob

GroupNGC8, which pipe did you use.
I have heard the cheap ebay autobhan ones are a bit soft and also seem a little too large.
Tempted with either a Samco, SFS or speak to Mark at Lateral.
