Well oh my god what do ya think?
Need it fixing and I haven’t got 2k!

Doing about 30mph at the time gentle driving then a crunching noise came from the engine and I stopped no more than 40meters after! Engine died it was running (was in neutral as soon as I heard the noise).

Took her apart and this!

So what do ya think Do i new a bank loan?

WOW thats not good. Can't see how it would break on its own like that.
I'd imagine the damage would be the same as the cam belt snapping, maybe not as bad, as the rest of the pulleys would still work a bit more.
Hope you get it sorted.

I was kinda thinking it would be the same as the Belt snapping! I might be able to cope with a bill of 1k but an engine rebuild's more like 2k

wouldn't bother with a rebuild, would buy a second hand complete engine if your struggling for money and just put a new oil pump on for a bit of piece of mind with the crank, because you wouldn't just be talking a bottom end rebuild with yours the heads will probably be fub-barred, bent valves etc etc.

i don't know why i think this, but isn't the impreza engine a non-interference engine?

Only the non-turbo motors are.... the single overhead cam ones I think.

Do them plastic (bakerlight?) pulleys shatter often? Has it happened before to anyone?

ive had a few come into our workshop like that, because muppets had replaced their cambelts and used MOLEGRIPS on the pulleys to stop timing marks moving i think it can cause little stress fractures to appear and after a while they finally give up the ghost

yip happened to me and the garage glued the cam pulley together and made a nice ashtray out of it .Didnt do any damage apart from a horrendous noise when it was turned over, new cam belt and pulley and away it went.8 months later it did need a full rebuild tho

If your after an engine.. DON'T GO NEAR MR ENGINE...
I got a silver series refurbed engine from them, £750, supposed to be stripped, all components checked, replaced if not within tolerance, new mains and big ends, heads checked , new gaskets etc..
Cost £400 to have my old lump removed, all ancilleries swapped over and "new" lump fitted....
It sounds like a tractor while cold, cronic piston slap, Mr engine arn't intrested, they've got my money now..
I'm goin to be talking to trading standards about it...
looked like a good deal to start with, ended up with an un-saleable car, not that i want to sell it, just want it to work properly...
