Default uk turbo wanting more power

to my understanding the engine is standard apart from a pink STi ecu.

firstly what are these mapped for power wise and what can i do to see the 300bhp mark? i was thinking hopefully it will just mean a different turbo as long as i dont go too mad..

really want some advice guys i went in a sti version 6 at the weekend and that was well well fast he had no printouts but reckoned it was around 300ish

so that what im looking for.

cheers guys

The pink STi ECU is part of the Prodrive Performance pack, its an ECU mapped by ECUTek, for Prodrive. Should be around 240bhp.

They can be mapped, it just seems a waste, because you can sell that ECU for more than a normal one, and then have a normal one mapped.
300BHP will require and uprated turbo, full decat and re-map. I don't think you need the bigger injectors for sure, but it would be safer.

Eyup mate before i did anything to my uk impreza it had

Hks induction kit (which im selling btw hint hint)
2.5 magnex turbo back system
remap by prosport

claimed output was 280bhp, and it was quite rapid

Now going for a vf34, 255lph fuel pump, bigger injectors, and apexi mangement

If your current ECU already has the ecutek licence then it's not worth selling IMHO, If you want 300 ish bhp then a vf series turbo or TD05 will get you there, depending on the model you get you will have to pay anywhere between 200 - 400 quid for a second hand one. Then £350 for the remap providing your ecu has the licence.

If you've got a receipt for a remap, speak to the firm that did it. If its ECUtek, then the licence should be on it. You can't check yourself.

for 300bhp not a chance.

for 300 you'll need,

vf35 (prob cheapest) £250-300
full decat £300-500
uprated pannel filter £40
uprated fuel pump £90-150
remap £400 - 600 (depending on license requirement)

plus the dreaded vat means anyware from £1500 - £2000

but you'll prob end up nearer 320-330bhp with those mods

for a grand your prob get a decat and remap to around 260bhp

I think your guess is right, 650-1000 will do it considering what you already have, my Ecutek remap By jolly green Monster was £350 all in (providing your ECU already has Ecutek licence like we suspect) a walbro fuel pump can be had on e-bay for £70, that just leaves the Turbo.

As with any power upgrade you have to consider the mileage and previous use of the car.

300 hp is well within what tuners would regard as acceptable for these engines, some have been know to run over 400 hp on the standard 2.0l uk turbo engine.

Mine was 317.5bhp without a remap.

And gets abused but is still perfectly reliable..

running a turbo without map for it is a real bad idea, tbh i'm amazed you've still got a car left

Over 15,000 miles and going strong.

The problem is the lag. It doesn't really do anything at all till 2500 upwards. But by 3200 it's all gooooooooodddd.

You see VF22's around now and again. I'm changing mine for a VF35 hichould spool up alot faster.
That and wrapping my headers and down pipe shoud help with the bottom end.

I do run an AFR guage too which Is always on and being watched closely.

Why wouldn't you run without a remap?
I had mine on the rollers a short time after I put the turbo on and it's still running on the rich side.

nutsaboutscoobies:-

Mine is a 1998 uk (MY99) and is puts out 312bhp.

I have the following mods:

VF35 - very good turbo, low spool and keeps going until around 6500rpm
FMIC
Walboro 255lph fuel pump
standard injectors (no need for larger ones - quite ok)
ECUTEK Stage 3 map
K&n filter
3" full turbo back exhaust system (Magnex)

The mapping is the key and depends who does it of course. Go for a reputable tuner, the likely hood is they will only map it so that it is safe to run - its their reputation on the line otherwise.

nutsaboutscoobies - mine is up for sale if you want a look, i found here ..
