You do know that using a ppp ecu with a full decat will be detting your engine to bits dont you?
You need to play with the restrictor plug in the T piece, needs drilling out slightly, then you really just want it remapping, the cost of a remap over a new turbo is about 1k and only 20bhp difference.

The PPP is set up to run certain items, you change those to give greater flow and it goes outside its parameters, ie it boosts to 1.2-1.3 bar where as it should be running 1.1 bar, this causes the det.
The T piece is in the left hand top part of the engine when you look into it, its just a rubber pipe with a restrictor plug in, ensure you put the restrictor plug back in the correct way after you drilled it out a little (not too much and you need a very fine drill bit for it)

I actually dont know which VF it is... Sounds odd I know but the API guys forgot to look at which number it was on the second hand unit when it went on and its not been in the workshop in a suitable position to be able to see it since! I think its a VF34. Guess one day I will get around to checking for sure
hey there, i stuck a question on about ecu's.... for a UK car but reading this has given me quite a few pointers!!!!! i got a TD05 18g which is a bit big for UK i think but hey, it'll come in on the next car...
TD05 will get you big power but for mid level mods it may be a bit too big and you'll get frustrated with the amount of lag. All depends how far you want to go with the mods and of course getting a decent map done. There seem to be a lot of guys make 300bhp or more with the stock turbo e.g TD04 but thats max'ing it out and many choose the VF option.
i wanna go vf for firstly more power on tap so to speak eg its not maxed out.. secondly i feel they produce more torque from when i went in that classic sti i was pinned to my seat it was awesome!
I'm sure the TD05 is capable of producing more power than the VF34 but with the smaller turbo you get spooled up a bit quicker and therefore have more initial and mid range power versus the bigger top end of the TD05 on a big build. Unless you are after a _lot_ more power e.g. 350bhp upwards then the VF will make over 300bhp easy and keep you grinning. I used to notice the TD04 running out of puff (although admittedly I was on the smaller injectors as well) whereas now it pulls just as hard once its going all the way to the red and keeps you stuck in your seat as you dash through the gears. TBH I also dont see how people get any fun out of cars with much more than 300bhp on everyday roads. You have to go _that much faster to feel like you are trying that it starts to verge on the silly. In fact I reckon I have used my car less since the last round of mods as its scary and keep pondering setting it up for track use instead.
PS If you havent already, try doing a search on this stuff. Loads of ppl on SN have mod'd UK cars. My spec is a pretty typical one (including the cost) to get the best out of the stock internals. Anything more and you have to set your sights way higher and find a seriously fat wallet!
thats what i plan a very quick road car and you are correct anything more is wasted on our roads.. i just wanna be pinned in my seat right through the gears and have loads of grunt if u know what i mean?
id take a guess moulds at yours being a vf35 with it hitting 320 on that spec, you'd prob see a few extra switching to a front mount.
spec wise theres a few differences between mine and yours as far as i can see (correct me if im wrong)
my spec is, my 00 uk turbo
vf34
scoobyclinic front mount intercooler
k and n induction kit
full decat exahust
autronics ecu
im still running the 440 injectors and no FPR
but i have had a few additions/suppporting mods, uprated oil cooler, ppg straight cut gearbox, uprated clutch, defi gauges and a nocklink.
runs a very comfortable 341bhp with oil temps, even when given death on a day over 25 degrees, below 90 degrees.
when tuning to the level your talking about, oil temps could be an issue and need to be kept well under control to prevent damage, also you could be very close to killing the gearbox (man shat itself at 260/280), plus possilby the clutch could be at risk.

tidgy what would you say is a safe power for me to run then?
bob r what supporting mods do you have? i would be over the moon with that figure as long as its safe?? then rb5 engines are the same.. i used to own an rb5

How long is a piece of string TBH!
Does depend on a number of factors, not least of which the condition of the car and its intended usage
Well modified and mapped, there are examples of UK cars taking 400bhp, so just shy of 350 with good supporting mods and a1 mapping should be trouble free. At least I hope it is!!
Many (including me) run Uk turbos in the low mid 300s without issue and, looked after properly, they do seem to be happy around this level.
Gearbox can be an issue though, especially if you go for a TD05 16g and upwards!
